Catherine “Cathy” Anne Smith Davis of Fredericksburg went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at the age of 77 years.
Cathy Davis is survived by her sister-in-law, Neva Davis-Wright of Bedford, Texas; niece and husband Debbie and Doug Goode of Grapevine, Texas; grandnieces: Dr. Andrea and Mr. Landan Howell of Colleyville, Texas; Bethany and Brock Jameson of Euless, Texas (along with great-grandniece Nova Jameson); Rachel Goode of Euless, Texas; cousins, and extended family members.
Catherine was born on Feb. 17,1944, and adopted 9 months later into a loving family by Rev. McNair and Jane Smith of Shreveport, Louisiana. She enjoyed spending time with family growing up, particularly her aunts and uncles. She loved traveling with her family and growing up in the church. Catherine never met a stranger. Her parents and husband, George W. Davis, predeceased Catherine.
Catherine graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education & Library Science. There she was a part of the Tri-Sigma Sorority and also served as Grand Worthy Advisor for the Louisiana Rainbow Girls. Catherine started her career by teaching in New Orleans and then later moved to Houston where she became a librarian. Catherine received her Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from Stephen F. Austin State University years later. In 1968, Catherine married George W. Davis and they enjoyed many happy years together until George’s death in 2014. They taught, served in their church, managed a campground in the Piney Woods and traveled together.
In 1982, Catherine was initiated into the Delta Kappa Gamma Society for women educators. She served in various capacities and held the office of Alpha State President from 2005-2007. In DKG, Catherine met many people, made friends all over the world and developed lifelong relationships.
Upon retirement, Catherine and George relocated to Fredericksburg. There they established their final home, continuing to serve in their church and enjoyed time with friends and family. Catherine was easy to love, funny, passionate, and had a zest for life.
Funeral services will be at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Fredericksburg at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 1. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m.
Graveside services and interment will follow on Saturday, May 8 at 11 a.m., at the Forest Park West Cemetery in Shreveport, Louisiana.
