Eddie Mae (Jones) Smith

1942 ~ 2022 (age 80)


Eddie Mae Jones Smith was born May 13, 1942 in Natchitoches, Louisiana to the late Arthur Lee and Addlee Carter Jones.
After celebrating her 80th birthday with family, she peacefully exchanged time for eternity on May 17, 2022.

Eddie Mae attended school in Natchitoches and graduated from Central High School in 1960. She then pursued cosmetology at the Natchitoches Trade School. She utilized her hair styling skills and maintained a steady clientele that included family and friends. During this time, she also learned the craft of sewing and shown this skill for several years by creating garments for others, especially her children and nieces.

She began her employment with Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant (aka the Shell Plant) in Minden, La. After taking a break to take care of her children, she began working at LSU Medical Center in Central Supply, retiring after a 20 year career. She was always known to be a dependable, devoted, and caring coworker who maintained several friendships from her workplace, even after her retirement. Her favorite pastimes were shopping, casinos, and eating out at various restaurants. She loved watching soap operas and Old Westerns.

Early religious training started in her home. She accepted Christ at an early age at the St. Mark Methodist Church under the pastorage of Revered Percy Smith. After moving to Shreveport, she united with Galilee Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. E. Edward Jones, Sr.

In 1964, she married Julius C. Smith and to this union, two children, Sheila and Stevon, were born.

Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, Lue Jean Jones. Mourning her passing but celebrating her life is her daughter, Sheila R. Smith of Fort Worth, TX, Stevon Smith (Tuesday) of Mansfield, TX. Grandchildren, Jeriquies Smith, Renaldo Smith, Stephon Smith, Chamara Smith, Aniston Smith, Aerin Smith, and Stevon Smith II, aka SJ. Great-grandchildren Kadarien (KD) Adams, Brianna Taylor, Marquist Thomas, and Anisea Smith; one sister, Betty Jones of Houston, TX and one brother, Horace Jones (Carletta) of Natchitoches, La, two sisters-in-law, Mayde Lee Smith Young of Santa Ana, CA and Leola Jones of Dallas, TX; four aunts, Mary Lee Condet, Marie James (Arthur), Lizzie Watson, and Elva Jones of Houston, TX; a devoted confidant and niece, Peggy Gaston of Shreveport, La and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
