John was born on January 3, 1944 to Johnny Westley Callaway and Irma Vivian Mead Callaway in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2021 in Shreveport.
John worked in general maintenance in the health care field before retiring. He loved watching nature shows and particularly enjoyed “National Geographic.” He loved tinkering and fixing things around the house including the cars and anything mechanical and derived great satisfaction from completing a job well done. He belonged to Springs of Grace Baptist Church and attended regularly before his health prevented it. The love of his life, next to his Lord and Savior, was his family. He adored his wife, children and grandchildren with all his heart and soul. Spending as much time with them as he could was always first and foremost in his life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 47 years, Edith Spiegel Callaway; daughters, April Callaway Palmer and Kristin Callaway Calk and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Jackson Palmer, Sidney Palmer, Tatum Calk and Hudson Calk; and last but not least, his cat, Kikitty, that brought him much love and comfort during his health challenges over the years.
Honoring John as pallbearers will be Jackson Palmer, Jeff Calk, Mike McGuirt, Donald Henry, Gary Hunter, and Tommy Barr.
The family would like to express special thanks to their church family at Springs of Grace for all their prayers and help over the years of John’s illnesses. His daughters want to thank their mother for all the years of love, compassion, care and support she gave their father making his final years as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
