Rosa Mary (Harrison) Walker

1944 ~ 2021 (age 77)

Rosa Mary Harrison Walker was the embodiment of love, goodness, beauty, humility, strength, perseverance, stewardship, and godliness.

Rosa’s parents, the late Thaddeus Leslie Harrison and the late Doris Marie Harrison, welcomed their bundle of joy on April 15, 1944. Emulating her parents’ Christian traits and adhering to the Biblical instruction of the late Pastor C.E. Byrd, as a young girl, she began her Christian journey after baptism at the St. Mary Baptist Church. In adulthood, the guiding principles of being an impactful Christian were shared when she joined the historic Mt. Canaan Baptist, where the late Dr. Harry Blake was pastor. In an array of auxiliaries and committees, she served God by serving others. Paramount though, was her devotion to the Deaconess Ministry.

A product of the Caddo Parish Public School System, Rosa attended Central Elementary, J.S. Clark Middle School, and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School before advancing her education at Northwestern State University.

She and her first husband, Foster Lee Bryant, were parents to two lovely daughters, Sheritha and Dewanna. Rosa later married Joseph Warren Walker, Jr. and to this union, two sons, Joseph Warren III and Darrell were born. Rosa and Joe’s 56-year bond was blessed by God.

A true educator, she believed that parents were their children’s first teachers. She was influential in exposing her four children to not only academic and extracurricular activities, but to visible active church involvement. Her life was enriched with the addition of her beautiful blended children, Beverly, Michael, Dennis, Jerry, LaLeisha, and Zelda. As a public schools educator, she sought to guide students to academic success. She retired from Ridgewood Middle School. Always attractive and fashionably attired, she proved that dressing for success matters.

Rosa was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Norwood Leon Harrison; sister, Carol Elaine Harrison; and stepchildren, Beverly and Dennis Walker.
