Obituary

Solon Wood Dickerson, 88, of Garland, Texas peacefully passed from this life to meet his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 16th, 2020.

He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Neva Dickerson, also of Garland, TX, Sons Bryan (Kim) Dickerson, of Garland, TX, Blair (Patty) Dickerson, of Richmond, VA, Grandchildren Joshua(Kariss) Dickerson of Dallas, Texas, Jonathan(Edna) Dickerson of Richardson, TX, Austin Dickerson and Brianna Dickerson of Richmond, VA, and a nephew, Jack B. Dickerson, of Texas City, TX.

Solon, or S.W. as he was known to family and friends, was born in Leesville, LA August 13th, 1932, to SW and Nellie Jennings Dickerson, as their youngest son. He graduated from Leesville High School in 1950, and from Northwestern Louisiana State University in 1954. He was the first member of his family to receive a college education. After graduating from college, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served in Germany at the end of the Korean War. Upon his return to Shreveport, he met his future wife, Neva Frances Jackson and they were married in September of 1961.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jack Dickerson and sister Dorothy Dickerson Balla Jennings.

S.W. retired from Mobil Oil Company in 1992, and moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. He and his wife returned to Garland in 2012. They were long time members of Eastwood Christian Church, while in Dallas and also members of Central Christian before moving to Arkansas. While in Arkansas they helped to found The Village Christian Church, in Hot Springs Village. S.W. and Neva loved to travel the USA and were especially fond of visiting the National Parks, and New England in the Fall. They were ardent Rangers fans and enjoyed spending time with their family at the Ballpark.

A graveside service will be held in Shreveport, LA at Forest Park West Cemetery where all the Dickerson Family is buried. It will be officiated by Fred Bacon, longtime family friend, pastor of First Christian Church in Mesquite, TX.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Mayberry Gardens Assisted Living and Memory Care in his name.
