Obituary

Thomas Alva Butcher, 89, died peacefully on September 19, 2021. He was born October 19, 1931, in Coushatta, LA to Sam and Elsie Butcher.

A visitation will take place on Thursday, September 23, 2021, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Forest Park Funeral Home, 1201 Louisiana Ave. Shreveport, LA 71101.

Thomas was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church, in Greenwood, LA. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, September 24, 2021, at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd. Shreveport, LA. Pastor Todd Fee will be officiating the service with Masonic Rites.

Thomas attended Coushatta High School. At the age of 16, he traveled to Washington D.C. to work for U.S. Representative Overton Brooks.

Thomas married Anniece Sanders on September 24, 1951. They were married for 61 years until her death on March 4, 2013.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 - 1955 and was a Korean War Veteran.

In 1964, he joined the Corinne Masonic Lodge No. 5 and A.M. of Utah.

Thomas worked for Fluor Construction for 28 years as a Senior Safety Manager on projects in the United States and overseas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anniece Butcher; parents, Sam and Elsie Butcher; sister, Dora Smith; brothers, Edgar and Donald Butcher; and his nephew, Michael Smith.

He is survived by his daughter, Renae (Dale) Massie from Temple, TX; grandson, Christopher Massie; great-granddaughter, Kimberlee Massie; and great-grandson, Jason Massie from Saint Mary, GA.

Thomas was a loving and caring father and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
