Virgil was born on October 25, 1965 to Sammie and JoAnn Barker in Coushatta, LA.  He passed away on June 6, 2022 at the age of 56 in Alexandria, LA.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Sammie and JoAnn Barker; and a sister, Anna Louise.

He is survived by his sisters, Karen Denham (Charlie) of Boyce, LA, Tawania Sims (David) of Robeline, LA, and Lottie Williams of Princeton, LA; brothers, Sam Barker (Pam) of Elm Grove, LA, and Kenny Barker (Sheila) of Shreveport, LA; nephews, Bobby Bufkin, Michael Jordan, and Brandon Bass; and nieces, Danielle Nooning, Kara Williams, and Tara Williams.

Virgil was a member of Natchitoches Parish Volunteer Fire Dept. District 7 from 1991 through 2008, which unfortunately he had to step down from his duties due to health issues.  During his tenure with the Fire Dept., he held the positions of Board Member, Station Captain and District Chief.  He also worked and befriended Steven and Laura Strahan with Strahan Farms in Marthaville and Brad Ford with Ford Farms on Little Egypt Road, near Marthaville.  Virgil put all of his effort into everything he did, whether it was fishing, hunting, spending time with family or being a fire fighter, he was passionate about everything he did.  He valued the time helping his Momma at Barnhill’s Grocery, and met every customer with a smile.  He was infamous for his infectious smile, kind heart, and his cut-off sleeve button up shirt wardrobe.  Virgil never met a stranger, even the last ten years he spent in a nursing facility, he continued to smile and meet and make new friends.  He always enjoyed visits from Karen and his smile would light up the room when he learned of her upcoming visit.  She always made sure he felt apart of the family even though he couldn’t attend all the family occasions.  His indulgences in life were 3 Musketeers and thick chocolate milk shakes.  He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.

A special thanks to Dr. Barton, who cared for Virgil the last several years and to Mrs. Shearon Decker with Colfax Reunion Nursing Home, for the care and love she showed Virgil (Bubba).  She truly was an angel sent from God and he dearly loved her in return.
